Maurice Askew of the Graphic Design Section of the Granada Television Network talks about the work of his department in creating a distinctive form of visual presentation. The designers’ role in the development of a visual style with which the viewing public may easily and readily identify is discussed. Granada Television, based in the North of England has been running for almost two years. Granada advertise their programmes in the hope of attracting larger audiences and have used a variety of programme promotion designs and continue to strive for a recognisable style. The article is illustrated with examples of Askew's own work and that of his colleagues at Granada, Frank Hall and Geoffrey Holmes. [10 illustrations]
