In an Italian gallery. Industrial Design vol.4, no.2 (Feb.1957) pp.77-83 illus.
In the light of an exhibition of Italian designs of 1956, including work by winners of the prestigious Compasso d'Oro, at the Circolo Della Stampa in Milan, the author examines the question "Is there an Italian style?" The article is illustrated with examples of some of the products shown in the exhibition in order to answer this question. The products include a hair brush designed by Max Bill (p.78); steel tools designed by Giacomo Sotgiu (p.78); Thermos in anodised aluminium designed by Piero De Vecchi (p.78); an electric heater designed by G. Franco and made by C.R.E.C. (p.78), the 'Autoselz 56/S' anodised aluminium syphon designed Sergio Asti and Sergio Faure for S.A.A.C.A B. (p.79); a polystyrene dish designed by Ufficio Tecnico Samco and Gino Colombini (p.80); a reversed calf valise designed by Natale Beretta (p.80); a polyethelene container designed by Gino Colombini for Kartell-Samco (p.80); the 'Jungla' rug designed by Giuseppe Ajmone (p.81), the 'Atlantic' spinning reel designed by Carlo Alinari and manufactured by L'Alcedo Di E. Rolandi (p.82); a luminous panel that operates on a special cantilevering principle designed by Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce (p.82); the 'Sorriso' infrared heater designed by Lucian Misani and manufactured by Fargas (p.82); and the superautomatic sewing machine, model 1102 designed by Marco Zanuso for Borletti (p.83).
