A profile of Scott-Ashford Associates, one of the first, possibly the first, design studio in Britain to exclusively design products. It was established in 1947 by Douglas Scott and F.C. (Fred) Ashford. The pair had first met in the late 1930s while working in the London office of Raymond Loewy. Among the products that have been designed by Scott-Ashford Associates and which are illustrated and briefly described in the article include clocks for Westclox Ltd. and Thomas Mercer, an instrument for transmitting photographs by radio or telegraph for Muirhead & Co. Ltd., a watch-timer for British Watch Timers Ltd., a console for Rediffusion Ltd., a battery tester for J. Langham-Thompson Ltd., hearing aids, office machines for Universal Postal Frankers, an observation coach for London Transport, a lorry cab for A.C.V. Ltd., moulded plastic control knobs for Radio Spares Ltd., a toilet roll holder for W.C. Youngman Ltd., luggage for Papworth Industries Ltd., and a hand microphone for Vitavox Ltd. [18 illustrations]
