An interview with the Paris-based printer and graphic designer Alfred Tolmer. He talks about his approach to design and recounts the history of his printing firm, A. Tolmer, which was founded in 1910. In addition to two-dimensional printed material, A. Tolmer also also produce a range of cardboard boxes, intended as containers for confectionery, perfume, or as gifts. These boxes, which have have highly decorated surfaces printed by A. Tolmer, are discussed by Monsieur Tolmer. The article is extensively illustrated.

Tolmer, Bernard The weapons of direct advertising in France Art and Industry vol.48, no.285 (Mar.1950) pp.98-105, 128, 130, 132 illus. por.
The author examines on developments in modern French advertising. He that despite difficult economic conditions designers and printers are working to create advertising of a high standard. Economics dictate that lower quality paper is used, but French elegance and style is still much in evidence and he finds "profound skill" employed in direct mail advertising. The article is illustrated with advertising material printed and produced by Tolmer and Draeger, and graphics designed by Cassandre, Nathan, Servignac, Bérard and Dignimont. [22 illustrations, 3 in colour]
