Agutter, Thomas Charles [1866-1940. UK. Architect]
Thomas Charles Agutter was born in Deptford, Kent [now London], England on 21 November 1865 and was articled to Thomas Lee (c.1845-1920) from 1880 to 1884. He studied at Blackheath School of Art in 1884 and attended classes at the Architectural Schools in London, the Royal Academy Schools in London, and at Finsbury Technical College. He worked as an assistant to Lee for five years; at the Department of Architectural Works, Admiralty for over two years; and to Albert Edward Murray (1849-1924) in Dublin.
Agutter qualified as an architect in 1891 and subsequently worked in the Department of Architectural and Engineering works of the Admiralty, serving in Portsmouth, Chatham, Malta, Cape, Shotley, Gibraltar, South Africa and Greenwich. In 1897 he designed the Royal Navy Barracks in Chatham.
He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) in 1892 and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1920. He died on 28 July 1940. His address at time of death was 79 Lee Road, Blackheath, London
