Adkins, John Standen [1859-. UK. Architect/Mosaic Artist]

 

John Standen Adkins was born in London, England in 1859 and was articled to Ewan Christian (1814-1895) in 1877 and then remained with him as his assistant. He also attended classes at the Architectural Association and the Royal Academy Schools in London. He commenced independent practice as an architect in Chelsea, Middlesex [now London], England in 1882 while still working as an assistant to Christian and following the retirement of Christian in 1900, took over his practice. In 1904 he acquired the Practice of James Brooks & Sons. He was active as an architect until at least the late 1930s. His address was given as 8 Montague Road, Richmond, Surrey in 1939.
