Adams, Cole Alfred [1844-1909. UK. Architect/Furniture Designer]

 

Cole Alfred Adams was born in England on 21 September 1844 and trained as an architect in England. Between 1865 and 1868 he was articled to Christopher Crabbe Creeke (1820-1886) and Augustus Henry Parken (?-1898) in Bournemouth. He was also employed for two years as an improver in the office of Sir Robert Edis (1839-1927); worked for a period with William Butterfield (1814-1900); studied for three months at South Kensington Museum; and spent a furth year as a clerk in the office of R.W. Edis. He then commenced professional practice as an architect in 1872 and in 1874 was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (A.R.I.B.A.). In 1877 he was in partnership with Henry Peter Horner in Bournemouth.

In addition to his work as an architect, Adams also designed furniture. A drawing of a cabinet for a study by him is illustrated in The Cabinet Maker & Art Furnisher July 1882 (p.4).

Between 1874 and 1880 Adams’ address was given as 11 Holden Terrace, Grosvenor Gardens, London. He died in Kensington, Middlesex [now London] on 21 February 1909
