Aberigh-Mackay, Mary L. [-1952. UK. Painter]

 

Mary L. Aberigh-Smith was born in India in c.1874. She the daughter of George Robert Aberigh-Mackay (1848-1881), Anglo-Indian writer and professor of English literature at Delhi College. She subsequently moved to the UK in c.1900 and taught at the Ladies Residential Chambers in London.

According to the Suffolk Painters database she exhibited at the Royal Academy in London 1905-1906 after a sketching in the Kashmir Valley*. She also exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

She died at her home, Falkland House, Long Melford, Suffolk in 1952.

* Note: Patty Aberigh-Smith wrote an account of a sketching tour she made in the Kashmir Valley for ‘The Studio’ January 1916. The sketches had previously been exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1905-06. Patty Aberigh-Smith’s address was also given as Falkland House, Long Melford, Suffolk. Mary L. Aberigh-Smith and Patty Aberigh-Smith either related or were one and the same person.
