Aaron, John [1953-. USA. Ceramist]

 

John Aaron was born in Elyria, Ohio in 1953 and studied at Northwood Institute in Midland, Michigan (B.B.A., 1977) and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan (1978-80, B.F.A., 1980). He subsequently established a studio in Boulder, Colorado. He was artist-in-residence at The Station in Boulder in 1983 and was recipient of a grant from the City of Boulder Arts Commission to execute the Historic Boulder Sculpture Project - six ceramic platters depicting local landmark buildings - installed in Boulder public library in September 1985.

In 1993 Aaron was founder of CHALK4PEACE, Inc., an organisation that produces the annual global chalk art project. The aim of the organisation is to encourage more people to draw. Between 2002-04 he was director and curator of the Museum of Modern ARF in Arlington, Virginia, a postion he held for many years.
