Ahlgren, Jeanette [-. USA. Jewellery Designer/Fibre Artist/Sculptor]

 

Jeanette Ahlgren was born and raised in Palo Alto, California and studied fashion design at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California (1971-73). She has subsequently worked as a jewellery designer and fibre artist. Her pieces have ranged from functional beaded necklace, purses and belts, to woven and beaded ‘soft’ sculptures. In the mid-1980s she took a break from art to work as a gardener. She later also worked as a craft teacher with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease patients.

Solo exhibitions of Ahlgren’s work have been held at Mobilia in Cambridge, Massachusetts (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009). Her work has also featured in several group exhibitions including ‘Good as Gold: Alternative Materials in American Jewelry’, a Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) exhibition (1981-84)
