Adamec, Guy [-. USA. Ceramist]

 

Guy Adamec studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois (1970-73); under Henry Joe at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois (B.A., 1973); and under Richard DeVore at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (M.F.A., 1975).

Adamec was an instructor in ceramics at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois (December 1972); Cranbrook Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (1974-75); Mott Adult High School in Flint, Michigan (1977-81); Valley Schhol in Flint, michigan (1987-88); Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan (1995); Flint Community Schools in Flint, Michigan (1975-2004); and Flint Institute of Art in Flint, Michigan (since 2004). He has also been artist-in-residence at other institutions.

Solo exhibitions of Adamec’s work have been held at Yaw Gallery in Birmingham, Michigan (1975, 1977); Kingswood Lower Gallery in Bloomfield, Michigan (1977);
Greater Flint Arts Council in Flint, Michigan (1996); and at Ketting University in Flint, Michigan (1998). He has also participated in several group exhibitions since the 1970s including ‘Contemporary Vessels’ at Exhibit A Gallery of American Ceramics in Chicago, Illinois (1977); ‘Ten Michigan Potters’ at Buckham Gallery in Flint, Michigan (1996); ‘In Their Own Way’ at Beckham Gallery in Flint, Michigan (2003); and ‘Clay Works!’ at Blue Heron Gallery in Elk Rapids, Michigan (2004).

Examples of Adamec’s work are in the permanent collections of Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Detroit Institute of Art in Detroit, Michigan; Flint Institute of Art in Flint, Michigan; Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois; and the University of Iowa Gallery in Iowa City, Iowa
