Aebersold, Jane Ford [1941-. USA. Ceramist]

 

Jane Ford Aebersfold [also known as Jane Ford] was born in San Angelo, Texas, in 1941 and studied at Newcomb Art School, Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana (B.F.A., 1969); and under Val Cushing, Robert Turner and Dan Rhodes at New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University in Alfred, New York (M.F.A., 1971). She has has subsequently worked as a studio potter in Vermont, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Oklahoma.

Between 1972-93 she taught at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont. Since 2000 she has been on the art faculty at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, where she is currently [2010] professor of ceramics. She is also curator of ceramics at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma.

Solo exhibitions of Aebersfold’s work have been held at Park-McCullough House in North Bennington, Vermont, in 1974, Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York, in 1979, and at Meyer Breier Weiss in San Francisco, California, in 1982. Her work has featured in several group exhibitions including ‘American Potters Today’ at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (1986).

Examples of Aebersfold’s work are in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC; Los Angeles Vounty Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California; Boston Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts; the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England; Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma; and elsewhere.
