Abraham, Janine [1929-2005. France. Furniture Designer]

 

Janine Abraham [also known as Jeanine Abraham] was born in 1929 and studied at the Cole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the Centre d’Art et de Techniques [now the Ecole Camondo] in Paris. She woerked as a furniture designer from the early 1950s onwards. Photographs of a garden chair in plasticized cane with natural cane binding, and a low chair of white oxidised aluminium (aluminum) on a chromium base designed and made by her are illustrated in ‘Decorative Art’ vol.47, 1957-59 (p.53). Abraham is particularly known for her furniture in various neers and lacquered metal for Meubles TV. She sometimes collaborated with Jacques Dumond and René-Jean Caillette, and with her husband, a Dutch-born architect and designer, Dirk Jan Rol, with who she established the design firm Abraham & Rol. Abraham died in 2005
