Aho, Kaarina [1925-1990. Finland. Ceramist]

 

Kaarina Antintytär Aho [commonly known as Kaarina Aho] was born in Helsinki, Finland, on 28 January 1925 and studied at the Institute of Arts and Design in Helsinki. After graduating she was employed as an assistant to Kaj Frank (1911-1989) and from 1949 to 1962 worked in Franck’s design team at Arabia.

In 1962 Aho set up her own workshoip. She mainly produced mass-produced, low-cost articles of simple shapes with coloured glazes. Her work was exhibited in Finland, the USA, Canada, Italy, Belgian, Italy, Norway and Sweden. She was awarded the Diplome d’Argent at the X. Triennale di Milano in 1954 and 1957 Aho died in Helsinki on 23 September 1990
