Akubuiro, Dorothy Gilbert [-. USA. Graphic Designer/Photographer/Illustrator]

 

Dorothy Gilbert Akubuiro was born in the USA and studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She subsequently worked as a graphic designer, photographer and illustrator. Her work is discussed in Graphic viewpoints’ by Patricia Dreyfus in ‘Industrial Design’ vol.18, no.1, January 1971 (pp.60-63). Akubuiro was one of 49 black illustrators, photographers, and graphic artists, all working in or near New York City, who featured in ‘Black Artist in Graphic Communication’, a seminal exhibition which toured the USA and Canada in the early 1970s.
