Agnew, Ethel [-. UK. Jewellery Designer/Enameller]

 

Ethel P. Agnew [or Ethel A.S. Agnew - there is some uncertainty as to what her middle initials were] studied at Sir John Cass Technical Institute [now part of London Metropolitan University] in London, England in c.1906-08. She worked as a jewellery designer, enameller and painter until at least the early 1930s. She exhibited at the New Gallery, the Baillie Gallery and at Walker's Gallery in London; the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy, Wales; the Grand Ducal Museum of Arts and Crafts in Weimar, and the Royal Kunstgewerbe Museum in Berlin.

A gold pendant designed and executed by Agnew is illustrated in 'The Studio Yearbook of Decorative Art' 1909 (p.125). Until 1905 Agnew lived in Liverpool. By 1906 she had moved to London, where her address was given as 39 Beaufort Mansions, Beaufort Street, London. In 1929 her address was given as Ashfield, Heswall, Wirrall, Cheshire.
