Ahrlé, René [1893-1976. Germany. Photographer/Poster Designer/Painter]

 

René Ahrlé was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on 28 October 1893. He studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Frankfurt am Main and subsequently lived in Berlin where he worked as a painter, graphic designer and commercial photographer from the 1920s onwards. By the early 1930s he was working as a designer for Shell for whom he designed at least one poster - ‘Man fährt Shell, den Betriebsstoff der Welt’ (1931).

Ahrlé was a member of the Bund Deutscher Gebrauchsgraphiker (BDG).

Ahrlé's address was given as Nürnberger Str. 7, Berlin W. 50 in 1930; and Siegberger Str. 3, Berlin-Wilmersdorf in 1959 and 1967.

He died in 1976.
