Akamine, Estelle [1954-. USA. Fibre/Wearable Artist/Quilter]

 

Estelle Akamine was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1954 and studied at College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California; Citrus Junior College in Azusa, California; and at San Jose State University, California (BA, MFA). She has subsequently worked primarily as a fibre artist, wearable artist and quilter. She is known for her is known for her innovative sculpture and wearables made from industrial or recycled materials. Her work featured in the exhibition 'Fiber R/Evolution at Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1986, which later toured.

Akamine currently [2011] maintains a studio in San Francisco, California]
