Agnoli, Tito [1931-2012. Italy. Furniture/Lighting Designer]

 

Juan Bautista ‘Tito’ Agnoli (commonly known as Tito Agnoli) was born into an Italian family, in Lima, Peru, in 1931. Following World War Two he moved to Italy. Having studied painting with Mario Sironi, in 1949 he enrolled at the Facoltà di Architettura at the Politecnico di Milano, where he was an assistant to Gio Ponti and to Carlo De Darli. While still a student he was active as a professional designer and was recommended in 1954, 1955 and 1956 for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award. Following graduation in 1959, he worked primarily as a furniture and lighting designer creating products for Arflex, Cinova, Lema, Matteo Grassi, Molteni, Montina, O Luce, Pierantonio Bonacina, Poltrona Frau, Schiffini, Ycami. In 1986 he was awarded the gold medal at the NeoCon in Chicago, Illinois. Agnoli died in 2012
