A. McInnes Gardner & Partners [1905-. UK. Architectural Firm]
A. McInnes Gardner & Partners [now McInnes Gardner] is a Glasgow-based architectural firm founded by Alexander McInnes Gardner (1878-1934) in 1910. It appears to have been founded by Gardner whilst he was still in partnership with Thomas Andrew Millar (1880-1922) as Gardner & Miller. This partnership was formed in 1905 and was dissolved in 1912.
From its inception, A. McInnes Gardner & Partners/McInnes Gardner has specialised in designing the interiors of passenger liners including the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company and the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand. In c.1953 A. McInnes Gardner & Partners, together with architect Theodore Alexander and Emmanuel Lazarides, designed the interior of the Greek Line’s ‘Olympia’ cruise ship. They were also responsible for fitting out several ocean liners including the Queen Mary, Mauritania, Queen Elizabeth, Canberra, and the Royal Yacht Britannia. Since the 1970s the firm has diversified into other sectors including the leisure, commercial and industrial sectors.
